The
island continent of Australia and its various native flora and fauna
are a biologists paradise. It has experienced an unusually long,
uninterrupted period of evolution in isolation and contains a wide
variety of unique ecosystems from wetlands to tropical and temperate
rainforest to eucalypt forests, arid desert regions and
offshore coral reefs.
The fascinating mix of indigenous fauna ranges from the primitive through
unique survivors from the dinosaur era to highly evolved mammals. Nowhere
else in the world are all three lineages of monotreme, marsupial and
eutherian mammals found together.
The awesome and phenomenally beautiful gorges of WA, the tropical reefs,
the weather, the wildlife, the spectacular coastal features (eg. Great
Ocean Road), offshore islands, diving & snorkelling, the outback,
bushcamping, amazing stargazing, big rocks like Uluru, alternative lifestylers
and planned cities are all part of what Australia has to offer. Join
me now as I show you just a small selection
of this offering.
