Tofino

Black Bear We travelled to Torino on the West Coast in Pacific Rim National Park by way of Little Qualicum Falls (wet watery things ;-)), Sproat Lake (where we went for a dip or swim) and Long Beach. Along the route we also spotted a bear in someone's back garden - I bet the poor residents have never had so many visitors ;-)

Orca - Picture courtesy of Adrian "Kodak" BangerterOnce in Tofino we explored the town (very small, but quaint - water is their industry & livelihood) before embarking on a Whale-Watching and Hot Springs tour. The Hot Springs were, as the name suggests, hot - rather like stepping into a very hot bath that never goes cold. They were natural springs in the rather aptly named Hot Springs Cove, accessible only by boat. Regarding the wildlife side, we encountered Grey Whales, Humpback Whales, Sea Otters,Sea Otter Harbour Porpoises and sea lions. Unfortunately didn't get many good photos - animals don't tend to stay still and for the nanoseconds that they did the boat (a zodiac) was pitching rather violently rendering any still photography pretty useless. I have seen them all the same :-P

In the evening we ventured to Tofino's big local night of the week (karaoke). An experience. Some "interesting" individuals. As I said, an experience.
