Glockenspiel in MarienplatzHome of the Oktoberfest and BMW, we got a 1/2 day to enjoy the delights of this Bavarian town. We went past the 'Theresienwiese' grounds where the Oktoberfest is held. They were already putting up hanger-sized beer tents when we drove past. (For anyone interested in the Oktoberfest, it runs for 15 days prior to the first Sun in Oct - the opening ceremony was the recommended time to attend).

Sightseeing included the Glockenspiel in Marienplatz - a series of figurines do some actions on the hour at 3 specified hours of the day - and climbing the tower of the new town hall for a view over Munich. Glockenspiel figurines

View over Munich from New Town Hall Of course, I cannot fail to mention a visit to 'Hofbrauhaus', one of the beer halls and sampling the litre glass of beers! At this point perhaps some of you are thinking that alcohol seems to be featuring very highly here. On the contrary, you've got it ALL wrong. I was merely embracing the culture of all the countries through which I passed. The fact that many of them liked their beer was pure coincidence!! ;-)
