Lauterbrunnen

Husky at JungfraujochNext day we headed onto Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, via the Fragonard Perfumery in Eze for a short tour and the Gotthard Pass. No offence to the continental Europeans reading this, but Switzerland was the best country on the circuit. So clean and tidy. View down the valleyNo litter or graffitti (graffitti was particularly bad in Italy). Switzerland is supposed to be the most expensive country in Western Europe but its probably on a par with Austria, and at times, London.

The country is stunningly beautiful, which is why, at 0700 hours the following morning I was heading up Jungfraujoch, which at 3571m/11782ft is considered the "top of Europe". On that particular morning the temperature at the top was a balmy -6.2'c (that's minus 6 degrees - worse still because Nice had been 27'c!)

There was plenty of snow around but sunny and pretty warm if you kept out of the icy 42k/hr winds. Still, managed a walk on the glacier and saw some huskies. Most of all, the views were absolutely awesome. It was worth it for the views. A definite recommendation for anyone planning to visit the country.

Glacial formation We hiked down part of the way, then walked to the Trummelbach Falls, ten glacier waterfalls inside the mountain. Also very impressive. Another recommendation for anyone planning to visit Switzerland. We rounded off the day with a traditional Rosti.
