Day 10: Into Navajo Lands - The latter half of the trip, Grand Canyon included, was definitely the better half of the trip. The weather remained pretty hot 35'c - 45'c, with our final destination, Las Vegas estimated to be 120'F (about 50'c). The only exception to this was Bryce Canyon, which was overcast, drizzly and a great deal cooler (though not cold). As it was monsoon season, thunderstorms followed us ever since Grand Canyon!

Horseshoe Bend Lookout Day 10 started with a visit to the Watchtower, Desert View. This is an observation station and also intended to bring about a better understanding of the American Indians. The tower top is the highest point on the Grand Canyon South Rim at 7522 ft above sea level. From there we stopped near The Painted Desert (which is an massive expanse of flat desert) to nose at some Navajo Jewellery sellers stores before trekking to the Horseshoe Bend Lookout over the Colorado River in Glen Canyon, near a town called Page.Lightning at Lake Powell The lookout is so-called because the river is a massive horseshoe bend at this point - very picturesque though hot walking. Worth the stop though.

In Page we joined a Navajo jeep trek to Antelope Canyon, a little-known slot canyon (because it is very narrow) of very delicate sculptures and different colours and quite beautiful. We lost two of the Danish girls at this point - they decided camping wasn't really their thing and they departed for the airport! We spent the night at Lake Powell, a recreational lake created by damming Glen Canyon, and experienced a spectacular lightning show!
