Charity Work and Fundraising at BYFC
Bridgnorth YFC takes part in local community, charity and fundraising
activities and over the last eight years alone have raised in excess of
£22,000. The following charities have benefitted: Breakthrough
Breast Cancer; County
Air Ambulance; Birmingham
Children's Heart Unit; Wordsley Kidney Unit; Meningitis;
Telford Hospital Childrens Playground; Hope
House Hospice, Bridgnorth
Hospital, Guide
Dogs for the Blind and Suzanne Digwood Herceptin Appeal. The current
charity is Breast Cancer UK (Bridgnorth) with a Promise Auction in aid
of the British
Heart Foundation.
Annual events include the 'Muck Lug' (two delightful weekends of bagging
and delivering manure), Carol Singing, and the Bridgnorth
Lions Raft Regatta, supported by Beacon
Radio (as the Raft Launch & Recovery Teams). In addition, we have
taken part in the Bridgnorth Walk, held Promises Auctions and Race Nights
(horse-races on video). We are always looking for new
ideas and tried an evening of Magic and a Cake Stall at the Saturday
street market.
Shropshire was the first YFC Federation to be awarded 'The Prince of Wales
Perpetual Charity Challenge Trophy' for raising the most money for charity
per head of membership: £30,132 in 2004 benefitting 11 charities.
